Major changes to your home or building will often require a bit of preparation, and the installation of a garage door is no exception. In the days or weeks leading up to having a new garage door installed, it’s important to take a few basic steps to prepare your space, from removing hazards to a few other areas.
At Overhead Door Company, we’re proud to offer a wide range of commercial and residential garage doors to clients throughout Logan and other parts of Utah, plus provide expertise in a number of areas for those looking for an upgrade for their home or building. Here are some general recommendations on how to prep for an upcoming garage door installation of any kind.
Clean Garage Floors and Surroundings
One of the first and most important things you can do to prepare is to make sure your garage floor and the immediate surrounding area are as clean as possible. This means removing any oil or grease spots, as well as sweeping and/or vacuuming up any debris.
Not only will this help create a safer work environment for those installing your new garage door, but it will also prevent any potential stains or damage to your new door itself. Any significant items that might get in the way during the installation process should also be moved out of the area, whether this means putting them in storage or just temporarily relocating them to another part of the garage.
Move Vehicles Out of the Way
Both for your own peace of mind and as a way of avoiding hazard risks, it’s always best to move vehicles out of the garage and/or driveway area before any work begins. This way, you won’t have to worry about them being in the way or being damaged during the installation process.
If you don’t have another place to put them, try asking a neighbor if you can park in their driveway for the day or even just for the duration of the installation. In some cases, it might even be possible to park on the street in front of your home or building, though you’ll want to check with your local municipality to see if this is allowed and what permit requirements might exist.
Secure Kids and Pets
On the day of the installation itself, or perhaps with some advanced planning in some cases, it’s important to make arrangements for any kids or pets that might be in the area. This is both for their safety and as a courtesy to those working on the installation, as having them around can create extra noise and general commotion.
One option is to simply have them spend the day with a friend or family member, either at their house or perhaps taking them to a local park or other attraction. If this isn’t possible, see if there’s another room in your home or building where they can stay during the installation process, even if it’s just for a few hours.
