There are a few components in any home or building that owners can’t afford to go without for even a day or two, and a good example here is a working garage door. A garage door that won’t open or close properly, or is undergoing safety issues while doing so, will not allow for basic security and protection of the structure – luckily, though, the problems that tend to cause these results are easily identifiable and simple to fix in most cases.
At Overhead Door Company, we’re here to help with these and many related needs. We offer comprehensive garage door repair and garage door maintenance services in Cache Valley and other parts of Utah, ensuring that certain potential garage door issues never take place in your home or building – and, in rare cases where issues are already present, that they’re handled properly and affordably. What are some of the top potential causes of a non-working garage door, and what can you do to avoid or remedy each of them – either on your own or with the assistance of our pros? This two-part blog series will go over a primer.
A vital component in any garage opener system is the transmitter, which sends the signal to your garage door to open and close when needed. There are a couple things that might be going on with the transmitter:
- Dead batteries: One of the most common culprits here is also the simplest to fix: The transmitter batteries are dead. Batteries for in-car transmitters last a while, but not forever – they’ll eventually wear down and die. If your wall-mount transmitter is still working but your in-car transmitter is not, replace the batteries for the latter.
- Other problems: Other transmitter issues are also possible, including trying to use the transmitter while you’re too far away from the door. There can also be antenna, obstruction or blockage issues contributing here.
Garage doors open and close via a metal track, and this track must be aligned properly. If there are gaps, bends or other problems here, opening and closing will be tougher or even impossible in some cases. If you notice any of these problems, contact our team for immediate repairs.
Photo Eye Concerns
Garages also use a photo eye sensor, one that recognizes if objects or people are in the area below the door as it closes – and stops it from closing if this is the case. The simplest issue here is eyes that are out of alignment – there are eyes on each side of the door, and they need to connect to work properly. This is usually something you can adjust on your own.
